Speaking
Defining and non defining
Describe someone in your family who has had a big influence on your life. Talk about a city or place where you’ve been that you would recommend to others. Tell us about an object that is important to you and explain why. Can you think of a movie or book which you would recommend? Why?
What is a memory or experience that you will never forget? Talk about a friend who you have known for a long time.
Agree or disagree
Students who study abroad gain more life experience. Social media, which is used by millions of people, has both positive and negative effects. The people who work in creative industries should be paid more. Technology, which evolves quickly, is making traditional jobs disappear. The person who inspired me the most was my first teacher.
Interview role-play
Simulate an interview scenario where one of you ask and answer questions using defining and non-defining relative clauses. Choose a job to be interviewed and prepare your possible answers too.
Examples:
Can you tell me about a trip that you’ve taken recently? Describe a teacher or mentor who has had a big impact on you. What is a project or task which you are currently working on? Talk about a skill or activity that you enjoy doing in your free time. Is there a moment in your life which you consider very important? Why?
