Agriculture
there are three main sources of water pollution
Fertilizer
Dead Zone
Algal blooms
- Chemicals used for farms include: fertilizers and pesticides
- Excess chemicals can be picked up by rainwater
- Farms can produce millions of gallons of waste which often times get stored in huge lagoons
- Dissolved fertilizer can lead to plant and algae growth, which can lead to dead zones in the ocean
Agriculture
Chemicals applied to farmlands wash in to streams, ponds, lakes or oceans

Question 2
Question 1
- Households and businesses in a community can pollute the water supply.
- Municipal pollution comes from sewage, storm drains, septic tanks, boats, and runoff from yards
- People apply chemicals to their lawns-excess runs off into surface water
- People may dispose of harmful substances incorrectly.
- Sewage treatment plants dump treated wastewater into rivers or lakes.

Question 4
- Many industries produce toxic chemicals
- Nuclear power plants produce radioactive wastes
- Oil tanks and pipelines can leak.
Industry
factories and power plants can pollute water with harmful substances
Question 5
habitat destruction
and habitat loss
Humans often destroy the habitats of other organisms. Habitat destruction can cause the extinction of species. Extinction is the complete disappearance of a species.
Burning fossil fuels can release pollutants into the air which get dissolved into water and fall back down to Earth in rain or fog.
Acid Rain
Question 7
Question 6
Waste from households including sewage, yard waste, or home cleaning products.
Mining
habitat destruction
Oil Spill
Question 8
Municipal
Drilling deep in the ocean that releases oil into the water.
Clear cutting of forested areas to replace with buildings.
Blasting rock to access raw minerals or materials.
Adding chemical fertilizers to enhance plant growth or livestock waste impacting local rivers.
Industry
water pollution
Question 9
Agriculture
Chemicals are dumped into water sources.
Factories and power plants release waste products into streams and rivers.
