How is THE WORLD TODAY?

(ENVIRONMENTALY SPEAKING)

The world today faces significant environmental challenges, including climate change, deforestation, and pollution. Rising global temperatures lead to extreme weather events, while deforestation accelerates biodiversity loss. Pollution—both plastic waste and greenhouse gas emissions—continues to harm ecosystems and human health. These factors collectively threaten the planet's sustainability, requiring urgent action on a global scale.The video that follows will demonstrate the impacts of these environmental issues and potential solutions to address them.

Althought we werent familiar with the green movement, we found out that we unconcsiously contribute, with the followed actions:

What is our experience with green movement?

1. Using reusable bags intead of plastic ones;
2. Recycling every day;
3. Riding an eletrical motorbike ;
4. Using public transports;
5. Using energy-efficient light bulbs (LEDs);
6. Buying local produce.

Environmental threats

1) Climate Change is caused by burning fossil fuels, deforestation, and agricultural practices, leading to rising temperatures, extreme weather, sea-level rise, and ecosystem disruptions.

2) Biodiversity Loss is caused by habitat destruction, pollution, overfishing, and climate change, leading to species extinction, disrupted ecosystems, and weakened food security. This results in the loss of vital ecosystem services and imbalanced food chains.

3) Pollution is caused by industrial emissions, agricultural runoff, waste disposal, and vehicle emissions, leading to air, water, and soil contamination. This results in health issues, ecosystem destruction, reduced agricultural productivity, and harm to marine life.

Environmental Organizations - What is the meaning?

Environmental organizations are groups or institutions dedicated to protecting the environment, conserving natural resources, and promoting sustainable practices. Their primary goals include addressing issues such as climate change, pollution, deforestation, biodiversity loss, and habitat destruction.

Environmental Organizations - OCEANS BLUE HEART

The Oceans' Blue Heart, notably championed by Mission Blue, was founded by oceanographer Dr. Sylvia Earle in 2009. Its main objective is to establish and protect "Hope Spots," which are critical marine ecosystems vital for biodiversity, climate resilience, and ocean health. Mission Blue seeks to inspire action to safeguard these areas by raising awareness, fostering partnerships, and encouraging the expansion of marine protected areas (MPAs). Key venues include iconic marine regions like the Great Barrier Reef, the Galápagos Islands, and the Coral Triangle, among other global marine biodiversity hotspots.

Niel Armstrong famously said "one small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind.", so following what he said here are 3 examples of small decisions that can have a significant impact:

How can we help?

• Conserving Water and Energy;
• Supporting Green Businesses.

Reduced Plastic Pollution: Items like reusable water bottles, shopping bags, straws, and food containers minimize the amount of plastic waste entering landfills and oceans. Conserving Resources: Producing plastic requires significant amounts of fossil fuels, water, and energy. Protecting Wildlife: Marine and terrestrial animals often mistake plastic waste for food or become entangled in plastic debris, leading to injury or death. Raising Awareness: When individuals choose eco-friendly alternatives, it sends a message to others and businesses that consumers value sustainability.

Strengthening Global Impact: Many environmental issues, like climate change and biodiversity loss, are global problems requiring coordinated efforts. Supporting Conservation Projects: Donations fund critical projects that protect endangered species, restore habitats, and preserve ecosystems. Promoting Policy Change: Environmental organizations often work on influencing public policy to pass stronger environmental laws and regulations. Raising Awareness and Education: Donations support awareness campaigns, workshops, and community programs that inspire individuals, businesses, and governments to take meaningful environmental action.
