What Actually Happened?
On December 1st, 1955 Rosa Parks sat down on a public bus in Montgomery, Alabama & refused to give up her seat to a white person according to law.
For refusing to give up her seat, she was arrested & imprisoned by Alabama Law.
Sparked by the arrest of Rosa Parks a 13 months bus boycott was initiated & thousands of African Americans refused to ride buses or public transport in the state of Alabama.
On December 1st, 1955, Rosa Parks, a secretary for the NAACP, sat down on a public bus after a long day of work in Montgomery Alabama. According to Alabama state law, when a bus is filled , African Americans must stand up to create space for white people to sit. Rosa Parks was tired of having to sacrifice her safety & comfort just because she was African American & was arrested for refusing to give up her seat. News of Rosa Park's arrest spread & thousands of African American people, led by Joanne Robinson initiated a boycott of all buses & public transport in Montgomery Alabama. Thousands of African American's refused to ride public transportation for 13 months. This peacefull way of protesting led to a supreme court ruling that segregation on buses was illegal & proved that peaceful protesting was an effective method.

The Little Rock 9 were the first African American students to be allowed to enter Central Highschool in Little Rock, Arkansas. They proved that African American's could go to school with regular American students.
The idea of desegregating schools was an idea with many mixed opinions. Because of the opinions people had about integration, Governer Faubus ordered the state's national guard to block the entrance so the students couldn't get in.2 days later, after a judge ordered the students to be let inside, a mob prevented the students from entering the school.
President Dwight D. Eisenhower sent U.S military troops to escort the Little Rock 9 to Central High, & they began regular classes.
However, the students' highschool lives were not easy. They were harassed, jeered & threatened but they perservered & grauduated with the country's honor.

"I Have A Dream"
Speech By martin luther king jr.
“I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.”
On August 28th, 1963, thousands of African Americans took part in the March on Washington to the Lincoln memorial for jobs & equal rights in Washington D.C.There, Martin Luthern King Jr. gave his famous "I Have A Dream Speech." The mass number of people who were protesting, compelled the administration of John F. Kennedy to grant a Civil Rights bill which prohibited discrimination & gave all African Americans voting rights & further desegregated schools & public accomodations.
