What we did:

The challenge:

We have always been committed to securing academic freedom and freedom of speech within the law but we also recognise that we needed to prepare people to work accurately in this complex and fast moving area of legislation.

Working with the Deputy Registrar and our legal providers, we developed training resources on academic freedom and freedom of speech and embedded these within our essential training for all staff. We developed a staff support procedure to ensure staff impacted or potentially impacted by academic freedom can access support they need. Working in partnership with the Students’ Union we developed new student training and information. We have embedded this in the student registration process.
