between 5 and 13 millions tonnes of plastic are released in the ocean every year, wich corresponds to... of the marine waste.

If you can not do things yourself, because of the lac of time, you can at least try to buy upcycling stuff instead of classic plastic ones, like chairs or tables. Like that, you can contribute in the recycling loop
At our level, we can still do a lot of things to help , like being a member of an association that goes to the beach and collect as much waste as they can, like in France the "Océan Protection France" association.
What about oil spill?
Oil spill are a very polluting phenomenom because the oil disperses in water, making it very difficult to recover but a solution has been found. A floating skimmer, combined with a chemical that attracts the oil, sucks it up from the surface of the ocean, then a pump draws the collected liquid, which is still made up of water (30% to 50%), into a container. click the text to saw this installation !
This solution has been invented to replace the plastic made of fossil fuels. The plastic is completely unharmful for the human health and is biodegradable. For now, groups like Algopack are able to use this plastic in any king of industry, for exemple toys, flower pots, cars... This also allows to reduce the amount of seeweeds in the ocean that increases because of the global warming .
Plastic made of seeweed
- instead of shampoo plastic bottles use powder or solid ones, with this you'll reduce plastic and save money
- instead of plastic water bottles use reusable ones
The first hybrid-powered cruise ship has made its beginning in the summer of 2023. Launched by Silversea Cruises (Royal Caribbean Group), this new luxury liner runs on a trio of energy sources: a fuel cell system, rechargeable batteries and hybrid engines using LNG as the main fuel. It not only emits less CO2, but also 97% fewer particles than conventional liners. In addition to the hydrogen fuel cells and hybrid engine, a new automatic micro-gasification system (MAGS) reduces the volume of waste on board, resulting in lower emissions from incineration.

This boat's mission is to collect, treat and recycle large quantities of plastic macro-waste in areas of high concentration, such as the mouths of major rivers, estuaries and along coastlines. The Manta collects waste from a size of 10 mm up to a depth of one metre. Depending on the density and proximity of the water table, it can collect between 1 and 3 tonnes of waste per hour, 20 hours a day, 7 days a week. The aim is to collect between 5 and 10,000 tonnes a year.

A bacteria able to disintegrate plastic
A Japoneese scientific discovered a certain bacteria that would be able to "eat" the microplastics that are spred in our ocean. This process would creat a small amount of CO₂, and only eliminate 1% of the plastic in the ocean, but that well developped, could help reducing the quantities. The scientifics are thinking of directly releasing the bacteria in the 7th continent, so that it developps even faster. For now, the bacteria exists at the top of the Alps, in marshes in China, in the Arctic…
“Carbios especially makes the difference in circularity. If you buy a bottle recycled using mechanical processes, it will be thrown away after a few reuse. With one ton of plastic, we produce 97% of plastic components. And we can achieve 30 to 50 cycles where conventional recycling is limited to three to five. »
