Governments

briefly
Around the world, there are many different countries, with many different types of governments. Three of the most common types of governments are monarchies, dictatorships and democracies. This essay will briefly define each system and compare and contrast the different ways they work.

Governments

rare
Firstly, a monarchy is a type of government where one person, called the monarch, is in charge of the country. Once they take the throne, this person usually remains the monarch for the rest of their life. In rare occasions, the monarch can abdicate the throne, which means they step down and let someone else take their position. Throughout history, monarchs have had a reputation for living expensive, lavish lifestyles.

Governments

previous
Some countries have rules that only the eldest male can become the king, but other countries, such as the United Kingdom, give the crown to the oldest child of the previous monarch. Queen Elizabeth the II was the queen of the United Kingdom from 1953 until 2022. After she died, her oldest son, Charles III became the new king. Elizabeth became queen after her father died, but her father was only the king because his brother abdicated the throne.

Governments

justice
There are two main types of monarchies. In some countries, the role is largely symbolic, and the true power and decisions of running the government are carried out by an elected group of people. This is called a constitutional monarchy. On the other hand, sometimes a monarch has control of the laws and justice of the country. This is called an absolute monarchy.
