What duties does a king have?

Poor King Arthur

summon
His father never used to have time for boating or picnics in the park. So now there would be no time for him to have fun, either. Today he woke up and it was his first day as king! “I must be a strong king,” he muttered as he got up to get dressed.
Arthur woke up and lay in the bright sun streaming through his gigantic window, thinking about a peaceful day on the lake. He would summon his friend, Peter to go out on the boat with him and they would - He sat up suddenly and gripped the bed. He wasn't a prince anymore.

Poor King Arthur

grandiose
It was the chair where his father would sit every time he had an important decision to make. It was much bigger and more luxurious than the small chair Arthur used to sit in as a prince.
Shortly after a full, delicious breakfast, Arthur met with his advisors in the throne room. He perched on his new throne and thought about how big and grandiose it was. A solid marble seat that glistened blue and green from the light of the fire.

Poor King Arthur

realm
Arthur frowned while he debated what to do. “If we don’t have any money from taxes, the kingdom won’t be able to do anything. Send a collector into the region and put any farmer who can’t pay into jail. Then charge them double taxes for next year.”
“Your majesty,” the top advisor said. “There is still a severe food shortage in the south part of the realm. The crops were terrible this year, due to drought, and there have been many fires. The people that work on the farms haven’t made any profits this year, and won’t be able to pay any taxes.

Poor King Arthur

concern
“Only because you are male. I’m older and I’ve been paying attention to how our father ruled for many years. He was always lenient in years with bad crops.” Arthur stared at his older sister and wondered if she was right. In the end he said, “I have to be a strong King.”
“Do you really think that is a good idea?” A tall, regal looking woman with sharp, intelligent eyes had entered the room. “How is being in jail going to help people get money to pay taxes?” “Well, that’s not really your concern, sister. I am the King now, not you.”
