Jessica hung up the phone, stood up, and raised her hands triumphantly. “Ladies and gentlemen, you’re looking at the newest guest star on the hit TV show, 'Landings.'” She beamed a smile around the office, took a graceful bow, and returned to her desk chair.“Oh, wow!” her coworker, Janet, looked impressed. “They just picked you? You don’t have to go in for an audition?”Jessica shrugged. “Well, yeah, there is an audition, but they told me I was one of the best people. It’s almost a sure thing.”

A Sure Thing

Carl heard Jessica and made a short laugh, “Almost? I find it hard to believe they would cast someone without an audition." “You should do a dance number, you’re a really good dancer. They’ll love that,” Janet added. “I’m not going to waste too much time on preparation,” Jessica answered. “They assured me that I was just the person they were looking for. I think the audition is just a formality. “You should still have something ready,” Janet warned. “Someone else might come in with a really good audition piece and the producer will give the part to them instead of you

“Guys, don’t worry. I am great at improvisation. If they ask me to sing, or dance or act or even juggle, I will be ready. I have been preparing for this type of role for almost 20 years. Did you know that I starred in my first performance when I was only two!” Jessica began to talk about the time she performed on stage with her sister in the local theater group. Carl’s phone rang, and he quickly turned away to answer it. He rolled his eyes toward Janet as soon as Jessica couldn't see him.

“I can’t wait. I am going to be such a big star. Just wait; after I do this program, some producer on Broadway is going to see me and ask me to star in his new musical. Then, after I do theater in New York for a while, a big director will ask me to come out to Hollywood, and I’ll be the biggest movie star in the world.”“I think you might be getting a little ahead of yourself,” Janet said dryly.Jessica scowled and turned away from her coworker. "You just wait and see," she stated. "I am going to be a star!"
