Story

A History Game by Mr. McTague

Legend says that in the near future you will be asked to answer Construction Response Questions on your Regents Exam. It is told that you only stand a chance to defeat these questions with proper knowledge of what is to come. This quest will require knowledge, grit and a bit of skill, will you go on the adventure?

LETS DO IT

Thank goodness you’ve come! I have been trying to pass the Global Regents for years! Sadly, I never opened my Do Nows at the start of class and have been getting cooked on that test ever since! I just don't get the CRQs!

Would you help me pass those CRQs!

We Got You!

Nahhhh

That's my GOAT, I'm finally gonna pass this thing!

I knew you would not fail me! Thanks a lot! Here is the Sword of Success. Now gather the skills to grow stronger and defeat the Regents.

Please, my parents will send me to night school soon!

LEVEL 1 - Context GEM

Context GEM

The first step to defeating the CRQ is knowing how to answer the context questions. Question One they will ask about "Historical Circumstances" or "Geographic Context" of a document. This is true EVERY time. If only the old man knew this! Historical Circumstances: means "Background Information". That means what happened BEFORE an event that led to it happening. They would ask this by giving a document (text or picture) and asking you to describe the historical circumstances which led to it..

Start level

My name is Max. I have been guarding this dungeon ever since I lost a lunch fight with Justin. Some say that the reason I got in a fight was because I was always in the hallways after the bell rang.

In the Lunch Fight Activity, what were the historical circumstances that led to Justin fighting with Max?

Justin wanted to be a slapboxer

Max and his friends bullied Justin

Gah I guess you're right! No wonder I never made it in the UFC! Historical Circumstances are only half of the battle though, surely you won't understand Geography!

LEVEL 1 - Context GEM

Context GEM

Besides Historical Circumstances, you could also get asked about Geographic Context on question one. Geographic Context: is sometimes called "The Why of the Where". This means you will need to describe the geography of a document and explain its impact. This could be done by identifying a geographic feature, resources, location, etc and explaining how it affected people.

Start level

What should you include in a geographic context answer?

Information about events that led to it

Information about geographic features

Which could be a correct response for Geographic Context?

The Ocean allowed them to trade

The Desert was really bad

How might the geographic context of plains affect those living in that environment?

Plains would make it hard for them

Plains would be easy to grow food and build on

What was the most important reason the first civilizations settled near rivers?

Rivers allowed people to grow food

Rivers allowed people to travel

Congratulations!! You can answer context questions! No shot I'll see you in Summer School!

Hahahaha, looks like you're failing 9th grade with me ...

Nah chill, give me another chance!

LEVEL 2 - Sourcing GEM

Sourcing GEM

The next step of the CRQ is being ready to answer the sourcing question. Question Two will ALWAYS ask you a question about the source of a second document. You will have to explain something about a documents "Purpose", "Point of View" or "Audience". Purpose: means why a document was created. You will have to think carefully about why the author would have made the document.

We write differently for our friends than our granmda. You could answer this by saying "The Audience was _____, so the author (explain how it affected the document)"
