~Megan and Navisha~
Who are they?
- Greenpeace are a worldwide pressure group that use peaceful protests and use creative confrontation to expose environmental problems as well as promote solutions that are essential to a green future.
- They have locations worldwide and their headquarters is based in Amsterdam, the Netherlands.
- Their staff consist of scientists, activists, campaigners, event planners, financial directors, marketing teams etc.
-History-
- Green peace was founded in 1971 in Canada
- Founded by a small team of activists motivated to stop underground nuclear weapon testing by the us military. The us military were testing nuclear bombs underground in Amchitka so they protested by sailing to it, confronting the bomb. They raised money for the mission with a concert and they set sail to Amchitka on their fishing boat labelled ‘Greenpeace’.
- Originally, the committee was called ‘don’t make a wave
The history and what succeeded...
- The voyage protest was a huge success and in 1972, the us abandoned nuclear testing grounds in Amchitka.
- In 1974 Greenpeace took the French government to court with the campaign to ban their nuclear weapon testing and he won so in 1974, France announced they would end their atmospheric nuclear testing program . This slightly nudged the making of the nuclear test ban treaty of 1966.
- Over 250,000 people have signed green peace's petition to ban disposable vapes as they cause huge amounts of waste. They amount of vapes disposed yearly could fill 22 football pitches
The different methods that were used...
- Greenpeace is an independent campaigning organization which uses non-violent, creative confrontation to expose global environmental problems, and to force the solutions which are essential to a green and peaceful future.
- They also raise public awareness by addressing their different campaigns, for example: Saving the Artic, Protecting Forests, Fighting global warming and many more...
- It creates awareness to our government about serious issues that are damaging our planet that the British government could potentially help fight against.
- They peacefully protest, no one is harmed and there are never any crimes committed so the British government and police don’t have to worry about them in terms of potential danger.
- An independent, non-profit organization, doesn’t take from the British economy
Why are they beneficial?
