Analytic phonics instruction helps students identify common prefixes, suffixes, and base words and root words in multisyllabic words. Analytic phonics instruction begins with an analysis of the whole word and teaches students how the word can be broken into its components (syllables, rimes, known word parts.) Sorts are a common way that we ask students to analyze sound-spelling relationships within familar words and connect it to new words.
