+ Info
Rosa Parks was riding the bus home after work in 1955 when the driver told her that she need to stand so a white man could sit she said no. She was arrested and this sparked outrage in the Black community on Montgomery so they started a bus boycott the day after she got arrested no black person rode the bus. This Bus Boycott lasted for over a year and at the end the supreme court ruled that segregation of local bus was unconstitutional and was outlawed. This boycott inspired other boycotts throughout the United States and inspired people to stand up to segregation and this event kickstarted the civil rights movement.

MLK and 250,000 protesters marched toward Washington for jobs and the freedom of all black people. They hoped to pressure the government into passing a civil rights bill. When the protesters got their MLK gave his famous "I Have a Dream" speech. In his speech MLK talked about his dream for the future of the United States of America where every one is treated equally no matter what their skin color is and people are judged based on the content of their character not the color of their skin. This took place on August 28, 1963 in Washington D.C. This led to the civil rights act of 1964 this made all forms of segregation outlawed. This was the biggest event of the civil rights movement and this day went down in history and people still remember it today.

A group of black and white activists in 1961 wanted to end segregation on interstate buses so they decide to do a freedom ride. The ride started in Washinghton D.C. and was supposed to go all the way To New Orleans, Louisisana but attacks by the KKK in Anniton, Alabama forced them to stop the ride. After the ride the Interstate Commerce Commision was forced to pass a law to end discriamation on interstate buses. The ICC passed a law that forced buses to have a sign that says "Seating on this bus is without regard to race, color, creed, or national orgin by order of the Interstate Commerce Commision." This brought attetion to the way black people were being treated and how the KKK were brutal and needed to be stopped because they brutally beat the riders and firebombed the bus.
