Acute Effects of kinesiotaping on pain, balance, and gait performance in patients with knee osteoarthiritis
- KINESIO TAPING (KT) is commonly used for patients with knee OSTEOARTHRITIs
- Goals of KT include:
- Pain relief and inflammation reduction
- Mechanical support
- improvement in functional outcomes
Introduction
- This PowerPoint will examine the effects of Kinesio taping on:
- Knee Osteoarthiritis
- Pain Management
- Balance
- Functional Mobility
- Gait Performance
Powerpointoverview
- Total of 164 patients with knee osteoarthritis
- Age Range: 60 and up
particiPant details
- Inclusion: Patients with symptomatic grade 1-3 knee OSTEOARTHRITIS
- Exclusion: Rheumatoid diseases, previous knee surgery, or inflammation in the knee joint
Inclusion and exclusion criteria
- Groups: Kinesiotaping (KT) vs Placebotaping
- Blinded Outcome assessment with Two physiatrists
- KT and PT applied similarity but KT with tension
Study Method
- Two I Bands and Two Y bands used for STABILIZATION and Mechanical Correction
- Tension applied: 10-25 % FOR MECHANICAL correction
- THE Same was applied for placebotaping just without any tension
KINESIOTAPING Technique
- Tests Used:
- 10-meter walking test
- time up and go test
- single leg stance test
- functional reach test
Assessment Methods
- Pain and Gait performance improved more in KT group compared to PT
- Both KT and PT Group showed reduction in pain
results
- KINESIO TAPING provides immediate effecTs in reducing pain and improving gait performance in knee OSTEOARTHRITIS
Conclusion
- Randomized controlled trial design
- immediate outcome measurement
- Blinded outcome measurement
Positives of the study
- No focus on daily life activities
- No long-term follow up
- limited participant diversity
