African Americans get Civil Rights

The 24th Amendment is the elimination of poll tax. It was ratified on January 23, 1964. The Civil Rights Act of 1964 prohibits discrimination on race, religion, sex, color, or national origin. It also integrated schools, public facilities, and it made employment discrimination illegal. The Voting Rights Act of 1965 gave everyone the right to vote.

Black citizens celebrated because they got the right to vote. Kids and adualts were happy and 250,000 new voters registered.

Lyndon B. Johnson approved The 24th Amendment in 1964.

The 24th Amendment is the elimintaion of poll tax. Poll tax is a tax that you pay to have to vote.

The I Have A Dream Speech was a call for equality. Martin Luther King JR. identified the problems about the country and talked about what it needs to become a better place. The Gettysburg connections is a connection from Martin Luther King JR.'s I Have A Dream Speech to Abraham Lincoln's Gettysburg speech.

Martin Luther King JR.'s script took many days to come up with. Him and his script writers. His script writers gave him an outline about what to say, and he decided on how to say it.

I Have A Dream Speech Script

Martin Luther King JR. made his I Have A Dream Speech in the Lincoln Memorial. An estimated 250,000 people attended.

The Gettysburg Connections is the similarities between the Gettysburg Address and the I have A Dream Speech. Both have similarities like saying score meaning 10 years. The I Have A Dream Speech was a call for eqaulity, and the Gettysburg Address was about the ideals of freedom.

At 6:05 P.M. on Thursday, 4 April 1968, Martin Luther King JR. was shot. It was on the balcony of Lorraine Motel in Memphis, Tennessee. He was rushed to the hospital where he died an hour later. James Earl Ray was the shooter.

Martin Luther King JR. was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital after he was shot. He died an hour later.

James Earl Ray assassinated Martin Luther King JR. After the assassination he fled to London, then was captured in the United Kingdom. He plead guilty and was sent to 99 years in prison.

The Lorrain Motel was in Memphis Tennesse. Martin Luther King JR. was shot and killed here. He was on the balcony of room 306 when he was shot.
