Proteins are a sequence of smaller molecules called aminoacids.
Aminoacids go one after the other creating a chain, like lego pieces.
This chains can fold in different shapes, allowing the protein to do differrent types of functions in living organisims.
Functions can be structural (so they are the little bricks that form the cell), help a specific reaction take place or they can help transport a molecule (for example hemoglobin transports oxygen from our lungs to all the cells in our body).
WHY WAS THIS DEVELOPMENT SUCH A HUGE BREAKTHROUGH FOR CHEMISTRY?
