Getting to PLC Stage 2

The Obligatory Ice Breaker

Because we know you don't (normally) bite.

Why are you sitting with people (you likely) don't know?

But outside of your department/team, you don't know what you don't know.

We know you know how to PLC, right?

Why are you here?

The key to growing from stage to stage is to accurately identify and understand your current reality.

PLC Stages

Stage 2 is Characterized by

Teachers sharing classroom practices with each other, making instruction transparent through comfortable and honest conversations.

Take 2-3 BLUE post-its. For 1 minute, write down 2-3 successes you have had this year or in recent years. Use 1 post-it for each success. What is going well? What are some effective instructional strategies that you would be willing to share?

Brain dump

Take 2-3 PINK post-its.For 1 more minute, write down 2-3 of the biggest struggles you have had. Use 1 post-it for each struggle. What could you use help to improve on? Where do you need to be supported?

Now What???

As a group, take your BLUE success post-its and organize them into themes. Decide on category titles that describe the themes/trends you identified. Do the same for the PINK struggle post-its.

Consider the level of impact for resolving these struggles.

Consider the ease or difficulty in addressing the large-scale struggles you identified.
