Brown vs. Board of Education

Back to event

Brown vs. the Board of Education of Topeka was one of the first big movemonets in civil rights. It was one of the first incidents of desegregation. It desgegragated schools, giving hope to thousands. It all started when her parents tried sending her to the local white elementry school. She was denied entry so she protested. Her parents took it to court and the NAACP backed it up. This led to the desegregation of public schools.

This is the school where Ruby Brid ges was denied entry, but then eventually let in.

Greensboro Sit-ins

Back to event

The Greensboro Sit-ins were one of the most monumental moments in ending desegregation. Some local college students decided they were sick of sitting at the segregated black lunch counter, so they decided to sit in at the white one. Every day, the group of people participating in the sit-ins got bigger and bigger. Eventually, it spread to other businesses in Greensboro and then across the country! The chain reaction it started desegregated many businesses across the south, proving as one of the most effective protests.

This is the school where the original college students attended. North Carolina Agriculture and Technical State University.
