Overview
- A sit-in protest took place at a whites-only lunch counter in Woolworth's store in Greensboro, North Carolina at the end of 1960.
- Four African American students stayed in a store all day long.
- An African American waitress said, "You fellows make our race look bad." and refused to serve them.
- Before the store closed, they promised to come back tomorrow.
- The sit-in protests were staged all across the South.
- It finally led some shop owners to serve African Americans in the south.

- It happened in 1962.
- It took place in Birmingham. MLK was arrested for parading without a permit in Alabama and was held for 8 days.
- On the first day, Connor Bull arrested thousands of children. On the second day, thousands of African Americans gathered outside the 16th Street Baptist Church to continue their protest. Many Americans were horrified by the violence they saw on TV and in newspaper photos that JFK had to call 3,000 army troops to restore peace in Birmingham.

Assaination of MLK
Overview
MLK was shot on his balcony in Memphis, Tennessee. MLK died from a gunshot wound to the neck, which killed him. Throughout the civil rights movement, he never stopped trying to achieve his goals.
