The freedom riders started in Washington D.C. on May 4, 1961, and their final destination was New Orleans, Louisiana. You might be asking who these freedom riders were, they were blacks and whites who protested to see if they could sit wherever they wanted in a bus to get to their final destination. During their protest, while riding the bus they were attacked on Mother's Day in Anniston, Alabama, by a member of the Ke Klux Klan (KKK). They were bombed and many were hurt badly. After that, they were heading for New Orleans but were stopped at a bus stop in Jackson, Mississippi, and 27 freedom riders were arrested. After all that, interstate buses needed to display a certification that said ¨seating aboard this vehicle is without regard to race, color, or Nat. origin, by order of interstate commerce commercial.

The Little Rock Nine were nine African-American students (Minnijean B, Terrance R, Elizabeth E, Ernest G, Thelma M, Melba P, Gloria R, Jefferson T, Carlotta W) who were selected to attend Central High School in Little Rock Arkansaw, in 1957. They did this to start segregation in schools, because of the Brown vs Board ruling. On September 3, 1957, the Little Rock Nine were met by an angry. Gov. Faubus used the National Guard to keep them out of the school, but on September 20, he was told to let them in but refused, so the president Eisenhower sent 1k troops to help get them in the schools. They stayed at the school to keep them safe, but later the school closed for a whole year, And schools weren't fully segregated until 1971.

The end of the civil right Museum

this was Central High School, this was the high school that the Little Rock Nine attended. This was very important to us as it was the school that started segregation.

this is very important to this topic as it shows where MLK was shot to death. it was on the second floor of the motel, and he was shot while looking around and standing on the balcony.

This was after MLK got shot, and it shows how unexpected it was, and how many people were trying to help him. They were pointing to where the shot came from, which resulted in finding out who killed him.

this shows when they got to the final stop not at their final destination but in Jackson, Mississippi, on a bus stop on December 10, 1961, they stopped because of a series of attacks. When they arrived in Jackson, Mississippi, 27 riders were arrested, and they were sentenced to 2, months in prison.

This shows the start of their protest on May 9, 1961, in Washington, D.C., and how many people (blacks and whites) went on that bus to protest. They sat anywhere and were ready to leave for New Orleans, Louisiana, but little did they know how hard it was going to be or if they would even get to their final destination.

These are the nine African Americans who were selected to attend Central High School. This marked the start of segregation in schools and left a lot of people mad. They were selected because of their great grades and attendance. They were really important as they started segregation, the first blacks to enter Central High School.

this shows when they got attacked by the KKK clan on Mother's day just 5 days after they started their protest on May 14, 1961. The KKK clan was a clan that was against segregation and against everything that gave blacks rights. They bombed the bus, one of the freedom riders was beaten with a baseball bat, and others were assaulted, but luckily no one died.

this picture was the people's reaction to MlK's assassination, which was called ¨the Holy Week Uprising¨. The news spread quickly and the reason this started was because many people thought of MLK as their savior, which resulted not only in violent riots, a lot of property destroyed. Gov. Buford then sent 4k nat. guardsmen to diffuse the riots.

These were the soldiers who helped the Little Rock Nine get into the school after Gov. Faubes refused to. 1000 troops were sent to Central High School and Arkansas, not only to help the Little Rock Nine get it but also to protect them inside and outside the school.
