In the United States during this years a youth movement was born which then spread rapidly in Europe: the hippie culture, also known as flower children.

This community embraced the sexual revolution and the use of some drug. Hippies are characterized by dresses decorated by flowers or bright colors. The unbridled pursuit of total freedom was their way of life.

In this period there are huges changes about the young world, especially for the stylistic and musical change. In fact, the swinging period is marked by for exemple the Beatles and the Rolling Stones that caused a revolution in the youth by a social point of view. The young people continually challenged social norms and began to be themeselves without thinking of the judgement of others.

Another musical genre that developed its fame during the 60s was reggae, a genre born in Jamaica made popular by Carlton Barrett of The Wailers. Later superstars like Bob Marley, Jimmy Cliff and Peter Tosh made reggae an international success. Immigration from Jamaica to England had always been strong, but after the independence of Jamaica in 1962 it intensified further, and immigrants inevitably dragged their culture.

In addition to music , there were also new trends in the field of fashion. The key person was the fashion designer Mary Quant, the creator of the miniskirt, who renewed the british feminine look.
