Often, we wonder how long the enlistment process in the Puerto Rico National Guard may take, what to expect, and how to prepare for the challenges that come with this process. In this interactive document, our goal is to inform you about what it means to be a Soldier in the Puerto Rico National Guard.

Founded on the 13 of December, 1636 The ARMY NATIONAL GUARD is the oldest Military Component in The United States. We take the same Basic Combat Training as our fellow service members from Active Duty and Reserve components.

initial interview

The initial step in joining any armed forces service is to determine your eligibility for enlistment. During this phase, a recruiter will assess your background and inquire about your motivations for joining. To qualify, you must meet the following minimum requirements:-Be between 17 and 38 years old. -Be a U.S. citizen or a permanent resident. -Have at least completed your junior year in high school, -or possess a high school diploma or GED certificate. -Obtain a minimum score on the ASVAB test -Fulfill medical, physical, and moral standards

PRE-TEST

The Pre-test acts as a practice exam to assess your knowledge in the four main sections of the ASVAB: verbal, math, science and technical skills, and spatial reasoning. Think of it as preparing for a race; when we ask you to sprint 100 meters, we can evaluate your techniques and identify areas for improvement. Based on that assessment, we can advise you on how to enhance your style and form. The pre-test serves a similar purpose; once you complete it, we can gauge your potential performance on the ASVAB. If your results are not strong, we will pinpoint the areas where you face challenges, allowing us to provide you with the necessary resources to achieve your primary goal: passing the ASVAB.

The Department of Defense introduced the ASVAB (ARMED SERVICES VOCATIONAL APTITUDE BATTERY) in 1968. It was originally designed to predict future academic and occupational success in military occupations. In this stage you will be evaluated in the following areas:

1. General Science (GS):o Life science, earth and space science, and physical science

7. Auto & Shop Information (AS) Automotive maintenance and repair and wood and metal shop practices

2. Arithmetic Reasoning (AR): Solving basic arithmetic word problems

8. Mechanical Comprehension (MC) Principles of mechanical devices, structural support and properties of materials

3. Word Knowledge (WK): Ability to understand the meaning of words through synonyms

9. Assembling Objects (AO)How an object will look when its parts are put together

4. Paragraph Comprehension (PC) Ability to obtain information from written material

5. *Mathematics Knowledge (MK) Mathematical concepts and applications

6. Electronics Information (EI) Electrical current, circuits, devices and electronic systems

MEDICAL EVALUATION

MEPS also known as MILITARY ENTRANCE PROCESSING STATION is a medical facility in where you will receive the outmost Profecional care of our practitioners. In this Stage of your recruitment process you will receive medical evaluation to qualify you to become a National Guardsmen of Puerto Rico. Some of the tests that will be conducted on you may include but is not limited to: 1. Drug Testing 2. Blood Testing 3. Eye Testing 4. Audio Testing 5. Physiatrist Evaluation 6. Psychologist Evaluation

Once you hit this stage, we know for sure that you have the necessary skills to become a National Guardsman. So, you’ve taken the test and have your score results. Your recruiter with sit with you and discuss your goals and technical tools that you have at your disposition to choose the job best suited for your career path.

After you have finished all administrative tasks and fulfilled the requirements to enlist and select your Military Occupational Specialty (MOS), you will take part in the Oath of Enlistment ceremony. This ceremony is led by a commissioned officer, who will also sign your enlistment contract. It is one of the most significant moments in your career, a memory that will last a lifetime.

WELCOME BACK TO PUERTO RICO

Congratulations! You have successfully fulfilled all the requirements to become a soldier in the Army National Guard. At this stage, you will be assigned to a unit based on your Military Occupational Specialty (MOS), where you can share the knowledge you gained during basic combat training and Advanced Individual Training. If you've reached this point, I am honored to call you my brother/sister in arms. Well done!
