MLK I have a dream speech

Martin Luther King went to Washington DC to deliver his famous i have a Dream speech. he delivered his speech and 250,000 people showed up to listen to this. when he spoke he made many allusions to the Gettysburg Address. he was talking about how slowly desegragation was going. this led to the civil rights legislation.

The Little Rock Nine are the nine kids who were accepted to Central High School in Little Rock, Arkansas. When they went to school on their first day, they were swarmed by an angry mob. The governor called in a small army. After the president heard about this, he sent in 3000 troops to help the Little Rock Nine go to Central High School. The mayor closed the school after this year.

these were the military vehicles used in Little Rock. the army that came to help the little rock nine came in these vehicles and protected the students in it.

This is the high school that the Little Rock Nine went to for their first year. On their first day, they were swarmed by a mob.

the voting rights act

this is the start of the Voting Rights Act of 1968. it first started with the Voting Rights Act which is in the photo to the left. after this was passed many more laws against segregation and then segregation became illegal in the United States of America.

MLK's peaceful protests

this is a photo of Martin Luther King doing one of his peaceful protests. these protests and the I Have a Dream speech led to the passing of the civil rights legislation
