SAINT DAVID

Saint David (Welsh: Dewi Sant; c. 500 – c. 589) was a Welsh bishop of Mynyw (now St Davids) during the 6th century. He is the patron saint of Wales. David was a native of Wales, and tradition has preserved a relatively large amount of detail about his life. His birth date, however, is uncertain: suggestions range from 462 to 512. He is traditionally believed to be the son of Saint Non and the grandson of Ceredig ap Cunedda, king of Ceredigion. The Welsh annals placed his death 569 years after the birth of Christ, but Phillimore's dating revised this to 601.

POETRY
The word eisteddfod means “sitting together” or “gathering”, and eisteddfodau are cultural gatherings of all sizes, usually conducted in the Welsh language, involving a variety of contests and performances.
The Eisteddfod is a festival with competitions for music, poetry, and other art forms in Wales. Many Eisteddfodau are held and celebrated each year. They are a fantastic part of Welsh culture. The Welsh language is celebrated in the Eisteddfod traditions to help people feel connected to it.
The origins of the Eisteddfod can be traced back 1176, however, there is a legend according to Hywel Teifi Edwards, a Welsh academic and historian, that the first Eisteddfod took place during the 6th century in Conwy for the king at the time Maelgwn Gwynedd.
DANCES
MERLIN
Merlin was probably first written about in Welsh legend. His story is based on parts of several different real and fictional characters.
Merlin is a legendary character. He is best known as the wizard in the Arthurian legends. He was King Arthur's advisor and mentor.
Merlin was an adviser to several kings in the Arthurian legend, including Arthur and his father, Uther Pendragon. He advised Uther to set up the Order of the Round Table which was the group of knights who later served Arthur. Using his powers, Merlin helped King Uther to meet Ygerne (also spelled Igraine), Arthur’s mother. Once Arthur was born, Merlin took the baby to be raised away from his parents. After Uther died, Merlin said that the next king would be the man who could remove the legendary sword Excalibur from a stone. Many knights failed to remove the sword, but Arthur succeeded. Merlin then helped Arthur to claim the throne.
