The Cardiovascular System
The Circulatory System, also known as the Cardiovascular system is made up of 3 major componates. : The Heart The Blood The Blood Vessels The body is also made up of major areries and veins which help keep deoxygenated and oxygenated blood moving within the body.
- Acute and syndrome meaning sudden onset symptoms from the narrowing coronary arteries
- Myocardial Inchemia
- Myo - Muscle
- Cardio - Heart
- Ischemia - Deficent Supply of Oxygenated Blood
If the heart does not recieve an adequate amount of oxygenated blood due to the narrowing coronary arteries, or the coronary arteries become blocked by a clot or plaque, this can result in Myocardial Ischemia
ACS (Acute Coronary Syndrome) can result from multiple conditions related to the heart in which the coronary arteries become narrowed due to plaque, clots or spasms.
Coronary artery syndrome
Aortic Dissection occurs when there is a tear in the inner lining of the aorta and blood enters the opening, causing a seperation of the layers of the aortic wall. These typically occure within the thorax and can be described as a sharp, tearing or ripping pain in the back, flank or arm. In some cases, syncope (loss of conciousness) may be the only sign. Aortic dissection can also have similar symptoms to a stroke or MI (myocardial infarction)
Aortic Aneurysm occurs when a weakened section of the aortic wall begins to dialate and balloon outward due to the pressure through the vessel. There are usually no symptoms or signs that the patient is aware of. An Aortic Aneurysm can suddenly ruption and cause rapid and fatal interal bleeding. If the aneurysm gets large enough, it can be felt within the abdomen, back or groin
Two types of life-threatening injuries can occur to the aorta that are typically confused with each other: Aortic Aneurysm & Dissection
Aortic Aneurysm & Dissection
Signs and symptoms can present as: Dyspnea Tachycardia Paroxysmal nocturnal dyspnea Anxiety Tachypnea Cyanosis Chest Discomfort Cool, Clammy and pale skin
Heart Failure
Heart failure might be a result of a heart attack, a valve disorder, pulmonary embolism, cardiac rhythm disturbances, pregnancy, viral illnesses and certain drugs and it can be categorized as either left or right ventricular failiure. Heart Failure refers to the condition where there is a build up of fluid (congestion) in the body resulting in pump failure of the heart when the left, right or both ventricles are not meeting the bodies needs.
A thromus is a blood clot that is formed within the body as a response to an injury. A thrombus can form within a coronary artery at a site where plaque has built up. Plaque deposits within the coronary artery can weaken and eventually rupture, with this, the body will sent out many substances (platlets, thrombin and fibrin) to form a clot to stop the bleeding. Unfortuniatally, this can lead to a partial or complete blockage of the coronary artery and can lead to ischemia of the heart.
