Goals are reached

The civil rights legislation accomplished the 24 Amendment which abolished states from adding a poll or a pax to vote in government elections. The Civil Rights Legislation also passed the Civil Rights Act of 1964. which prohibits discrimination of people by race, color, sex, or national origin. Furthermore, the civil rights legislation pass the Voting Rights Act of 1965. Which ensured African Americans the right to vote without obstacles

Civil Rights Legislation

The Civil Rights Act of 1964 represents a pivotal victory in the fight for civil rights. It effectively bans discrimination based on race, color, sex, or national origin, fostering equality and justice for all.

The 24 Amendment being passed

The 24th Amendment was a significant milestone in the civil rights movement. This amendment prohibited the imposition of any tax or poll on federal elections. A question that often arises is why the 15th Amendment was necessary if this was needed over 100 years later.

Martin Luther King Jr.'s movement to end discrimination played a vital role in the passing of the Civil Rights Act of 1965. This act Abolished discriminatory voting practices, granting African Americans the right to vote freely. This was a significant advancement, though it unfortunately took over 100 years to achieve.

Overview

Assassination of MLK

On April 4, 1968, Martin Luther King was assassinated at the Lorrain Motel on the balcony in front of room 306. MLK was assassinated in Memphis, Tennessee, and he died when he was only 39 years old. Martin Luther King was shot from two whit men in a car across the street. According to a friend of MLK, the bullet exploded in his face. MLK was rushed to a nearby medical center where he later died from a wound in his neck. police had found a heavy hunting rifle about a block away from the scene, but it was not immediately identified as the mudrder weapon.

I incuded this because the Lorraine Motel is now a museum and MLK memorial that honors MLK after his assassination.

On April 3, 1968, Martin Luther King delivered the "I've Been To the Mountaintop Speech. This was the last speech from MLK before his assassination the next day on April 4, 1968. MLK was assassinated while he was standing on the balcony infront of room 306 at the Lorrain Motel. I included this because as MLK delivered this speech, it showed that he was not afraid to die.
This image shows the day MLK delivered the "I've Been To The Mountain Top" speech, and the day before his assassination.
