Save the Children is a global organization that drives change for children, families and communities. It works with governments and international organizations to guarantee children's rights.

SUMMARY

Type and structure of the organization

Made up of 30 national members and Save the Children International, it shares the mission of ensuring that children survive, learn and are protected. Furthermore, it created the Save the Children Fund to help populations in countries with few resources and living conditions.

ORIGIN AND HISTORY

Save the Children, any of several independent, voluntary organizations that seek to provide both disaster and long-term aid to disadvantaged children throughout the world. The original organization, Save the Children Fund, was founded in Great Britain in 1919 by Eglantyne Jebb and her sister Dorothy Buxton to provide relief to starving children in Germany and Austria-Hungary during the Allied blockade, which continued after the end of World War I.

ORIGIN AND HISTORY

From its earliest years, Save the Children employed innovative fund-raising and advertising techniques, including sponsorships of individual children who are identified to donors, full-page newspaper advertisements, and films of the organization’s famine- and disaster-relief activities. Save the Children organizations rely mostly on private charitable contributions for their funding.

As global leaders in child health, education and protection, they work in more than 100 countries to change the lives of over 100 million children every year. Africa: Burkina Faso, Democratic Republic of Congo, Egypt, Ethiopia, Kenya, Malawi, Mali, Mozambique, Niger. Asia and the Middle East: Afghanistan, Armenia, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Bosina and Herzegovina, Cambodia, China, India. Europe: Ukraine. North America: Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, United States. South America: Bolivia, Colombia, Venezuela.

AREAS OF OPERATION AND SDG

AREAS OF OPERATION AND SDG

Since 2016, Save the Children in Canada’s strategic plans have contributed directly to these breakthroughs, with a focus on children most affected by discrimination and inequality – children in crisis; children facing gender inequality; and Indigenous children in Canada. All 17 of the SDGs touch on child rights in some way, so through our work, we aim to make our own contributions to the SDGs as well as supporting communities and governments to make their own.

SAVE THE CHILDREN PROGAM FUNDING

The save the children program uses a low cost plan for it's administrative cost budget so they can increase the amount of money spent to help the children in need, so 1 dollora that ends up being funded they give 85 cents from it to programs, as of the rest is for administrative purpose only so that they can still operate.

Children in Syria and Syrian Refugees

SAVE THE CHILDREN PROJECTS

Gaza is now the most dangerous place in the world to be a child:

  • Over 40,800 people have been killed directly by the conflict since October 2023.
  • With the first polio case reported in Gaza in 25 years, children were already dying because of malnutrition and disease. These deaths are entirely preventable.
  • All children affected by the violence in Israel and Gaza must be supported to find safety.

SAVE THE CHILDREN PROJECTS

Children in Lebanon have felt the crushing anxiety of a looming war for months:

  • Children are among an estimated 270 people killed, and more than 1,000 injured in recent strikes on southern and eastern Lebanon.
  • Families are desperately trying to flee with whatever they can carry, children crying, terrified by the sound of drones and fighter jets.
  • Any further escalation of hostilities will mean an unacceptable loss of human life.

CONCLUSION

Ways to give to those in need.

  • Save the Children believes every child deserves a future. That’s why they do whatever it takes every day and in times of crisis to ensure children grow up healthy, learning and safe. Especially those hardest to reach. But we can’t do this important work without others support. There are so many ways to give back during the holidays such as making a charity donation, joining Team Tomorrow or honoring someone special.
