Vocabulary

Every time we let my mom choose a movie, she picks a romance.

romance: a genre about love and relationships.

Luckily, the script was well written, because Frank was terrible at acting in comedies.

comedy: a genre that intends to make viewers laugh.

romantic comedy (romcom): a genre that mixes romance and comedy.

Dyvine's favorite night out was watching a great romantic comedy at the movies by herself.

punchline: the final sentence in a joke, which creates the humor.

A punchline is not always easy to deliver.

to deliver: to give or bring something to someone; to perform as expected.

The actor and actress in the romance convinced us of their love.

to convince: to make someone believe something.

The sitcom involved a group of university friends, and their highs and lows.

sitcom: a comedy program made for TV.

series: a sequence of related TV programs which usually include the same characters and sets.

My grandmother's favorite mystery series was 'Murder, She Wrote.'

Reading

Is it likely that a family would forget to bring their 8 year old child on vacation? Why is 'Home Alone' a successful movie?

Based on a Michael Crichton novel of the same name, Jurassic Park is set on the fictional island of Isla Nublar, said to be near to Costa Rica. Here, a wealthy businessman has financed the de-extinction of many Jurassic period dinosaurs. They want to make the island a theme park for tourists. Our characters arrive on the island just as its safety system is purposely turned off, allowing the dinosaurs to roam dangerously free.

Rating

The blockbuster, Jurassic Park, earns respect for its quick pace and incredible special effects. Best experienced on the big screen, this movie offers a good range of jump scare and thrill. The characters, however, are not well developed. T-rex is perhaps the deepest character!

Summary

While the main characters narrowly avoid being eaten by several huge dinosaurs in their escape from the island, the villians are not so lucky. The movie concludes with the moral suggestion that perhaps science should not interfere with nature.
