Danger to Marine Species

Over 700 marine species have eaten or have been entangled by plastic (Shaw, 2022). Scientists estimate that the number of plastic in the ocean might triple by the year 2050 (Shaw, 2022).

What Can We Do?

Say "no" to straws! Use a reusable water bottle. Never litter. Pick up litter when you can. Snack on fruit (not packaged items).

Problems with Plastic

Most plastic we use only has ONE USE. Then, it is thrown away. This is called SINGLE USE PLASTIC (Shaw, 2022). Single use plastic makes up 40 percent of our plastic trash. Some people do not dispose of this trash properly.

Objective

Students will learn about plastic pollution and collaborate to create a project that raises awareness and suggests solutions.

Collaborative Learning Activity

1. Start with a brief discussion about plastic pollution. 2. Divide the class into small groups. Each group will research different aspects of plastic pollution. 3. Each group will create a poster highlighting facts and solutions of what they learned. 4. Groups present their projects to the class, explaining what they learned and how others can help prevent plastic pollution.

Assessment

Students will be assessed on their knowledge of plastic pollution, how well the group collaborated with each other, and effective solutions/suggestions made to solve this global issue.

Where Does the Plastic Go?

Scientists think that 8.8 million tons of plastic winds up in the ocean every year (Shaw, 2022).

Plastic left on the ground as litter blows into creeks and rivers, eventually ending up in the ocean (Shaw, 2022). Trash doesn’t decompose back into nature. It stays in the ocean forever. Harmful straws and grocery bags can be mistaken as food by marine creatures.

After practicing a lot. The best improvisation is the one that is worked on!

When delivering a presentation, two objectives must be pursued: transmitting information and avoiding yawns. To achieve this, it may be a good practice to create an outline and use words that etch into the minds of your audience.

Tip: Interactivity is the key to capturing the interest and attention of your audience. A genially is interactive because your audience explores and engages with it.

Show excitement! Take a deep breath and tellwhat you've come to say.
