CARNIVAL

RELIGIOUS PARTYS

Interestingly, Carnival is one of the most popular festivals in Malta, complete with masquerade balls, formal wear and costume contests. The event takes place during the week of Ash Wednesday and also features traditional parades in the streets, parties until the early hours of the morning and popular marches.

Religious festivals are a central part of Maltese culture. Almost every city and town has an annual festival dedicated to its patron saint. During these festivals, which occur mainly in the summer, there are processions, fireworks, live band music and parades. The churches are decorated with colorful lights, and the celebrations last for days, with great participation from the community.

History and Cultural Influences Maltese culture is influenced by various civilizations that occupied the island, such as the Phoenicians, Romans, Arabs, Normans, French and British. Each one left their mark on aspects such as architecture, language and cuisine.

The Maltese speak two official languages: Maltese and English. Maltese is a Semitic language with significant influences from Arabic, Italian and Sicilian. However, due to British colonization, English is widely spoken and used in government, education, and business.
