A verdade de uma tese — ou de qualquer proposição — é a característica de ela representar adequadamente as coisas como elas realmente são. Caso isso não aconteça, essa tese ou proposição é falsa.

Uma tese é uma resposta a um problema que está em aberto.

Quando as premissas apoiam da maneira mais forte uma conclusão isso significa que não há maneira de a conclusão ser falsa caso todas as premissas sejam verdadeiras; ou seja, significa que as premissas implicam a conclusão ou, para falar ainda de outra maneira, significa que a conclusão se segue logicamente das premissas. Quando isto acontece diz-se também que a verdade das premissas garante a verdade da conclusão. E é isto que significa dizer que um argumento é válido.
