Unit plan/Clay Pinchpots

Objectives: To acquire skills in crafting a pinch pot from clay and to understand the process of transformation from plasticity to a finished product.

Question: How did our ancestors discover clay? Answer: It was likely through a combination of coincidence and experimentation. The discovery was probably a result of both coincidence and systematic experimentation. Question: How did they find out that clay can harden? Answer:It is believed that this was discovered by chance, possibly when clay inadvertently came into contact with fire.

Needs Improvement: 5pts My pot wasn't wiped off ,and I only applied a thin coat of glaze. My pot may have pinholes.

Approaches 10 pts I could have done a bit better. I only applied 1 coat of glaze and I forgot to wipe it off. My pot has little pinholes

Good 15 pts I think my glazing is good. I applied two coats and wiped with a sponge before I started glazing

Excellent: 20 ptsMy glazing came out great. I wiped with a moist sponge and applied three coats so it looks saturated.

Needs Improvement: 5 ptsMy stem was not attached correctly. It fell off during firing. I couldn't fix it even eith glazing it on again.

Approaches: 10 pts The stem on my pot wasn't attached well. it came off during the first firing,but iglazed it back on and it held through the second firing

Excellent: 20 ptsMy attachments of the stem is solid. I scratched and attached properly . It held through both firings

Needs Improvement 5 pts I think that I need to improve of my pinching skills with clay. There are too many uneven thicknesses.

Approaching: 10 pts I think that Idid ok whit the pinching. Some spots are thicker than others.

Good: 15 pts The walls of my pinch-pot look mostly even all the way around. i think I did good.

Excellent: 20 points The walls of my pinch pot are even all around i could have not done any better
