AMERICAN RECOVERY AND REINVESTMENT ACT invests over a billion dollars for modernization projects at 150 GSA historic buildings.
2009
AMERICANS WITH DISABILITIES ACT (ADA) outlaws discrimination against persons with disabilities and establishes the Standards for Accessible Design.
1990
ART IN ARCHITECTURE program established designating a percentage of construction budget to art acquisition.
1972
NATIONAL ENVIRONMENTAL POLICY ACT is enacted to prioritize energy conservation in federal buildings. HISTORIC AMERICAN ENGINEERING RECORD (HAER) established to document technology and engineering features such as canals, railroads, dams, and bridges.
1969
Private and federal preservation efforts merge to form the NATIONAL TRUST FOR HISTORIC PRESERVATION. General Services Administration (GSA) is created.
PUBLIC BUILDINGS CONSTRUCTION ACT gives the GSA responsibility for federal construction projects.

1968 ARCHITECTURAL BARRIERS ACT requires federally funded facilities to be accessible to people with disabilities.

NATIONAL HISTORIC PRESERVATION ACT is passed and establishes the National Register of Historic Places and defines the process for historic preservation
1966
HISTORIC AMERICAN BUILDINGS SURVEY (HABS) is created to document historic buildings.
AMERICAN ANTIQUITIES ACT allows landmarks, structures, and other objects of historical or scientific significance to be desitgnated as national monuments.
HISTORIC SITES ACT establishes a national policy to preserve historic sites, buildings, and objects of national significance.
