The Freedom Riders

Freedom Riders

The Freedom Riders were a group of people who rode buses across the states to see if they could sit in integrated resturants, use integrated facilities, and sit anywhere on the buses. During their first trip, the Ku Klux Klan (KKK) atracked the bus. They burned the bus and assulted all the Freedom Riders. One they even beat with a basball bat. After all the freedom rides, it became law for buses that travelled across state lines to have a certificate basically saying that the bus was integrated and you could sit wherever you wanted, ec. cetera.

In 1962, a man named Bull Conors was in control of Birmingham, Alabama. At the time, it was the most segregated city. Martin Luther King Jr. wanted to do somethingabout it. So he came to Birmingham to lead a march. He was arrested a few days later for marching without a license. After that, little to no adults would march. So MLK Jr came up with an idea; have the children march. When the children marched, they were met with harsh violence. The firefighters turned the fire hoses on them with full force, and the police sicced the K-9's on them. Because it was being filmed, every one across America saw this violence. 3,000 troops were sent to restore the peace. After segregation was banned in Birmingham, little things changed. days after MLK Jr left the town, a churchwas blown up and killed 4 African American girls.
