Little Rock 9

The Little Rock 9 were nine high-schoolers who were chosen to go to an all-white high school. These students had the highest grades and were the best in their class. Segregation had just been deemed unconstitutional by the Supreme Court, but many states did not start the process of desegregation until almost 10 years later. Little Rock Arkansas had the U.S Army protecting the 9 Black students from an angry white mob protesting outside, and the Arkansas National Guard.

24th amendment, Civil Rights act of 1964, Voting Rights Act of 1965

The 24th Amendment stated that everyone is allowed to vote, without worrying about getting taxed for any reason. This lead to the Civil Rights Acts of 1964 which made segregation officially illegal. This was the start of freedom for African Americans. Soon came the Voting Rights Act of 1965 that banned literacy tests and officially gave the full right of voting to African Americans.
