Selma Marches

Overview

The 3 Selma Marches had taken place in March 7, 1965 in hopes to bring attention to the voting rights movement. The first march started and were met with violence instead. People were beaten by troops using tear gas, cluns and horses. The second march was better, but it ended once they were met with a wall of troops. The third and final march was the most succesful lasting 4 days with the defense of 2,000 U.S troops and the alabama national guard.

Overview

I have a dream

On August 28, 1963, Martin Luther King Jr spoke his infamously known, "I have a Dream" speech. This speech was one of the most effective speeches during the civil rights movement. At least in my opinion. It took place in the Lincoln memorial and over 250,000 people attended which really shows how effective this event was. Imagine this: You attend MLK's speech, how crowded do you think it would be? I mean we're talking 250,000 people, it has to be pretty crowded.

Troopers beating up marchers
Artifact 2

This is a picture of the troopers beating up the marchers. There were a lot of troopers and I really do feel bad for the protesters marching. It's insane how much people will go to stop protesting. How do you think you would feel if you were beaten up by a trooper? How would you react to the troopers beating up marchers?

A picture taken during the marches

This picture is a representation of what the third selma march looked like. It was very crowded, but all of these people marched anyway which just shows how much these people will do to be free from segregation. It makes you wonder a lot more about it. Like, how did they sleep if they traveled for 4 days? How did they eat?

Bad quality picture. I know.

Lincoln memorial

I have a dream speech was taken place in the Lincoln memorial. It was the location where over 250,000 people came to see MLK's speech. With 250,000 people, I can only imagine how crowded it would've been that day. I guess that shows how much this speech means to these people,
