The Selma Marches were trying to bring attention to Black voting and took place in 1965. The first march was on March 7th and they were met by heavily aremed state troopers and were violently attacked. But they didn't stop trying. The second march ended abruptly from a barricade of state troopers. But they still didn't stop. Finally, on the third march the state troopers were ordered to back down and MLK JR and his people walked 12 miles a day for 4 days with 25 thousand people. In the end the blacks got a law passed known as the Voting Rights Act of 1965.

On August 28, 1963, Martin Luther King Jr. marched on Washington to demand blacks' jobs and freedom. He then marched to the Lincoln Memorial. There he gave his famous "I Have A Dream" speech in front of 250,000 people. This is arguably the famous speech in American history right by Abraham Lincoln's famous Gettysburg Address. We will remember this speech forever.

The reason that Martin Luther King Jr chose to hold his speech at the lincoln memorial because it was Lincoln that was the one that fought a war for all the slaves and for their freedom. This made it an even more memorable and important day because of there connection.

The Lincoln Memorial was the place were MLK Jr. had his speech at

Camera/Media

If the media didn't follow MLK around everywhere then nobody would've known that he had been assasinated. They also wouldn't have had a picture to put on the newspaper and let all the world know that MLK had been assasination.

This is one of the pictures that the media got that followed MLK around.

Camera

Camera's played a very important role in the Selma Marches because then people that weren't there could see the horror of the blacks being fought and have sympathy for them. This also let poeple who weren't there know a little bit more about what was going on, and to this day because of the photos we are able to understand more.

This is a camera that photographers used to take pictures.

Microphone

This microphone was essential because so many people came to see him and hear him speak wouldn't have been able to see him if the microphone wasn't there because then nobody would be able to hear him. If only a few people heard him it wouldn't be as talked about today.

This is the microphone that MLK Jr. used at his speech.

Billy Clubs

This is an important artifact from the Selma Marches because this is one of the reasons that the blacks were stopped from marching in the first march. It also helped them realise that if they want something they are gonna have to perservere.

This is a Billy Club that cops used to beat blacks that were marching for there rights

The whole world wouldn't have seen MLK's speech if it weren't for this camera. We also wouldn't have ever seen his speech today and we wouldn't know what he said. That is how important this camera is.
