Exhibit A
In Selma, Alabama, The Selma Marches set out to bring attention to African American voting rights. The first march took place on March 7, 1965 but ended because of heavy violence. The second march, on March 9, 1965 ended again because of violence. On the third and last march on March 21, 1965 they were watched closely by many different officials like FBI agents and troops, but the walk continued to the state capitol until March 25. As a result of the marches, the Voting acts right of 1965 was passed!

In Birmingham Alabama, 1962, Martin Luther King arrived ready for the protests that were happening all around the South to come to Alabama. Unfortunately MLK was immediately arrested after arriving. After getting out he organized a march that would include over 100,000 children to avoid being attacked. In the end, almost all of the children that participated were arrestedor injured by the hose they blasted them with. This event horrified Americans all over the country.

Mayor of Birminham in 1962
This is the mayor that reluctantly opened the library, golf courses, parks, and schools to all citizens. Everyone begrudginly followed what the mayor ordered, but violence struck still.
Martin Luther King was unfortunately injured at his hotel in Memphis Tenessee. He was rushed to the hospital but sadly passed away. The news devistaded Americans all across the country. This caused mass violence and more were then killed. The civil rights community was struck hard and no one was willing to try and take on the role of the leader and take Martin Luther Kings place. After his death, he was awarded the Presidental Medal Of Freedom and, at the time, was the youngest person ever to receive such an honor.
