Troubleshooting Tips for

Troubleshooting Tips
- How do I update Newline Cast for the first time?
- When updating Newline Cast for the first time, please refer to these directions.
- I'm experiencing a delay or lag when casting.
- For best performance, we recommend connecting the main display via ethernet. Client devices can use either a cabled or wireless connection. If all the devices are on the same network, you can choose local-connections-only settings, which will ensure the best performance. Please also ensure that the room has a good network connection.
- I'm seeing a 10-digit code instead of a 6-digit code.
- A 10-digit session ID is shown when Local connections only is enabled on the Newline cast app on the panel. To check if you have local connections only enabled:
- 1. Open the Newline Cast app on the panel.
- 2. Click Settings.
- 3. Click Security.
- 4. Select the toggle for Local connection only. (If enabled, the app will show a 10-digit code. If disabled, the app will show a 6-digit code.)
- If Local connection only is disabled but the app continues to show a 10-digit code, the Newline cast software on the panel is having difficulty communicating with the cloud server. This could be due to no internet connection being available or a security restriction on the network. Please refer to our network security guide for firewall requirements. Also, please ensure the date and time on the panel are correct.

Troubleshooting Tips
- I'm seeing a black box with yellow text in the top left corner of my Cast session.
- When using Newline Cast by DisplayNote some users may encounter a black box with yellow text on the panel. This is a diagnostic window put in place for troubleshooting by the developers. If this occurs, this is due to the system recognizing several taps from the fine (thin) point of the stylus or a small finger, enabling the window to appear.
- To remove the diagnostic window, verify that you have a casting session running. After this has been verified use the fine tip of the stylus and tap the screen at least five times, if this does not resolve the issue proceed to tap the screen again ten to fifteen times to get rid of the text and window.
- I have no touchback control while casting.
- Please refer to the following link for directions on enabling touchback control for your device: https://newlineinteractive.freshdesk.com/a/solutions/articles/8000113564

Troubleshooting Tips
- Newline Cast is asking for an "Installer Code" or saying it "cannot activate Newline Cast."
- The Newline cast license key is built into the panel and will auto activate once the panel connects to a network. There is no need to type a license key or installer code into the field.
- In the event the app refuses to activate the key, please complete the following. (Tip: Close the Newline Cast through the App Switcher icon in the toolbar after performing each step to ensure the application can establish a new connection.
- 1. Ensure there is an active internet connection on the panel.
- 2. Check if the date and time is correct on the panel. (An incorrect year can prevent the app from activating the built-in license key.)
- 3. Connect the panel to a different network.
- 4. Connect the panel to a mobile hotspot, such as one from a cell phone.
- If Newline Cast still refuses to activate the key using these troubleshooting steps, please submit a ticket with our tech team here.

Troubleshooting Tips
- I have a floating session ID when I leave the Newline Cast application.
- When minimizing the Newline cast app on the panel, there may or may not be a floating ID on the screen. The Floating ID keeps your Newline cast session ID always on screen.
- This can be turned off by completing the following:
- 1. Open the Newline Cast app on the panel.
- 3. Select Session Management.
- The Newline Cast application is crashing.
- If the Newline Cast app on the panel crashes after showing a splash screen, it is possible that the app has become corrupt.
- To resolve this, please clear the app data on the panel using the steps below:
- 1. Access the settings of the panel.
- 2. Click Apps.
- 3. Click Newline Cast.
- 4. Click Clear data.
- 5. Relaunch Newline Cast app to verify if the problem persists.
- If clearing the app data does not resolve the issue, please submit a ticket to our tech team here.

Troubleshooting Tips
- When I touch the screen when casting, there are black marks everywhere.
- If tapping on the screen while casting creates black marks, this is due to a setting within the Newline Cast software. Within Newline Cast's tools, the pen tool is enabled, which creates these black marks on the screen.
- To change the default tool from pen to cursor:
- 1. After starting a Cast session, click the "Menu" button in the bottom left corner of the window.
- To clear the markings on screen:
- 1. After starting a Cast session, click the "Menu" button in the bottom left corner of the window.
- 2. Click "eraser" or "clear" to erase the black marks.

Troubleshooting Tips
- I am receiving a "parsing error" when casting.
- When updating the Newline cast app on the panel, there are some instances where it fails resulting in a "parsing error". To resolve this, please try the following:
- 1. Ensure the panel's firmware is up to date. Check the following article to find the latest firmware version for your panel: https://newlineinteractive.freshdesk.com/support/solutions/articles/8000109794-current-firmware-versions
- 2. Reconfigure the app settings to ensure it can properly install updates:
- Access the panel's settings > Apps > Newline Cast.
- Click Force stop to close the application.
- Scroll through the app settings and locate Install other apps or Install unknown sources.
- Enable Allow from this source.
- Go back a page and select Modify System settings.
- Enable Allow modify system settings.
- Go back to the homepage of the panel and then click Screen sharing to re-initiate the app update.
- If these do not resolve the issue, please submit a ticket to our tech team here.
