Notice Wonder Protocol
What is it?
This protocol calls for us to notice key elements and wonder without making inferences.
What does it mean to me?
Examples
I notice that many students are struggling with comprehension. I wonder if we are covering it enough in class. I notice that this benchmark was better, overall, than the last. I wonder if we are covering the concepts more in depth.
Looking at the data from your class and making some notice and wonderings to help guide a deeper dive into that data.

ACE Habits of Mind
Home
What is it?
A schoolwide commitment to action, assessment and adjustment with collaboration and a focus on evidence.
What does it mean to me?
Examples
I gave a test on multiplication and I noticed that most students incorrectly answered the questions focusing on a specific math fact. I decide to review those facts as warm-up for the next week before the students see them on a quiz again.
Using data and evidence from classroom and schoolwide assessments to drive future instruction.

Staying Low on the Ladder of Inference
Home
Examples
What's that mean?
Staying low on the ladder of inference means that we don't make assumptions or conclusions right away. We take data and look at it on a surface level. We practice notices and wonders before we ever consider taking action.
Correct: I notice that the scores on the last unit test were lower than the one before. I wonder if there is something that I should review with the students so they are better prepared for the next one. Incorrect: I notice that the scores on the last unit test were lower than the one before. I should probably restructure the unit I am currently working on to increase future scores.
