Hieroglyphics

The system of writing used in Ancient Egypt using pictographs is called hieroglyphics. The writing on these artifacts could be used to show what they are, or who they were for.

Facts About Hieroglyphics

  • Pictographs - symbols or images.
  • Can be written vertically or horizontal.
  • There are over 1,000 symbols.
  • The Rosetta Stone decoded the symbols.

Organs are preserved in canopic jars. Each jar is made of clay and topped with the head of a different god. These jars are placed in a canopic chest and positioned near the mummy in the tomb, ensuring the organs are available for use in the afterlife.
