A total of 65 cases from KPDN press releases and Bernama news reports were analysed. The map highlights 10 subsidised diesel seizure cases in Malaysia that took place between 2022 and 2024, which involved the largest amounts of subsidised diesel seized. This map is not reflective of the actual hotspots of diesel smuggling in Malaysia. The total value of items seized in the raids includes that of the diesel, equipment, and vehicles.

EAST MALAYSIA

Krubong Industrial Area, Malacca

  • Date: May 6, 2024
  • Activity: Misappropriated subsidised diesel at petrol stations around Malacca for the purpose of being sold out of state.
  • Items Seized: 35,000 litres of diesel, a tanker lorry, three skid tanks and equipment.
  • Value of Seizure: RM256,000.00 (estimated)

Seremban, Negeri Sembilan

  • Date: November 10, 2022
  • Activity: Misappropriated subsidised diesel at an unnamed premises in an industrial area.
  • Items Seized: 40,000 litres of diesel, a lorry, a compressor machine, business documents and equipment.
  • Value of Seizure: RM323,000.00 (estimated)

Krubong Industrial Area, Malacca

  • Date: April 5, 2023
  • Activity: Misappropriated subsidised diesel at an unnumbered lot in an industrial area.
  • Items Seized: 60,400 litres of diesel, a five-tonne trailer lorry and equipment.
  • Value of Seizure: Unknown

Bukit Kayu Hitam Industrial Area, Kedah

  • Date: April 28, 2023
  • Activity: Smuggling of subsidised diesel at a diesel fuel wholesaler premises in an industrial area.
  • Items Seized: 135,760 litres of diesel, seven locally-registered lorries, six Thailand-registered lorries, 10 skid tanks, three fuel pump machines, eight nozzle pumps, two cylindrical tanks, THB 192,902 in cash, documents and other equipment.
  • Value of Seizure: RM1.057 million (estimated)

Oil storage depot at Sungai Bidut, Sibu, Sarawak

  • Date: August 25, 2024
  • Activity: Subsidised diesel smuggling syndicate that misappropriated subsidised diesel meant for fishermen. Believed to have been in operation since 2012 and had amassed profits up to RM400 million.
  • Items Seized: 1.6 million litres of diesel, two barges and RM3.7 million in cash.

Plentong Industrial Park, Masai, Johor

  • Date: August 19, 2023
  • Activity: Lorries were used to misappropriate subsidised diesel at petrol stations along highways in Pasir Gudang, Masai, and Kempas, before being sent to illegal storage and sold.
  • Items Seized: 47,540 litres of diesel, a tanker lorry, two bonded lorries and a 4x4 pickup truck.
  • Value of Seizure: RM267,457.00 (estimated)

Sungai Lalang Industrial Area, Sungai Petani, Kedah

  • Date: April 9, 2023
  • Activity: Misappropriated subsidised diesel at two unnamed premises in an industrial area.
  • Items Seized: First Location - 3,000 litres of diesel, equipment and business documents, Second Location - 28,000 litres of diesel, two lorries, equipment, handphones and documents.
  • Value of Seizure: First Location - RM 34,450.00 (estimated), Second Location - RM544,600.00 (estimated)

Kuala Krai, Kelantan

  • Date: March 27, 2024
  • Activity: Misappropriated subsidised diesel at petrol stations around Kuala Krai. Diesel was then brought to a business premises before being sold to the industrial, farming and agricultural sectors.
  • Items Seized: 34,871 litres of diesel and two semi-trailer tankers.
  • Value of Seizure: RM229,872.00 (estimated)

Jalan Pintasan Dengkil-Putrajaya, Dengkil, Selangor

  • Date: February 22, 2022
  • Activity: Misappropriated subsidised diesel at a petrol station and construction site.
  • Items Seized: 64,400 litres of diesel, one four-tonne lorry, hose, one compressor, a CCTV decoder set, sales invoices/receipts and business documents.
  • Value of Seizure: RM178,347.85 (estimated)

Jalan Kuari Sungai Long, 43100 Hulu Langat, Selangor

  • Date: January 19, 2023
  • Activity: Misappropriated subsidised diesel at an unnumbered premises.
  • Items Seized: 42,000 litres of diesel, a one-tonne lorry, handphones and equipment.
  • Value of Seizure: RM108,900.00 (estimated)
