Conclusion Paragraph

Conclusions are our final chance to leave our readers with a lasting impression. This is where we throw our heaviest punches, so to speak.

What is in a conclusion?

  • Restate your claim
  • Summarize your analysis for evidence 1
  • Summarize your analysis for evidence 2
  • Summarize your analysis for evidence 3
  • Final thoughts on the topic

First we were paraphrasing, now we're summarizing?

Paraphrasing is simplifying something in your own words, that might be difficult to explain or understand otherwise.

Summarizing on the other hand is explaining ONLY what is most important and getting rid of the rest of the fluff.

Show me what you've got!

Reinforces the main ideas

Why are we summarizing instead of paraphrasing?

Brings the analysis full circle

Helps to clarify the overall argument

This is the information the reader walks away with, it's best to leave a lasting impression

Putting a bow at the end

Leaving your audience with a final thought on how all your evidence comes together will leave them with that lasting impression that makes your writing memorable

So what does a conclusion look like when it's all said and done?

Although they might not be real super powers, these incredible adaptations of animals, they help to make sure these animals survive so that they can do super things. Elephants are known to play key roles in maintaining the biodiversity of the forests and savannahs where they live, without there ears they wouldn't survive the harsh weather. Duck Billed Platypus are keystone species, who use their electric bills to find and keep the population of other smaller invertabrates in check. Finally there is the Bald Eagle, who uses it's keen eyesight to pray on smaller weak creatures which makes sure that only the healthiest of those species survive. Without these super creatures, the balance of the natural world would falter, impacting both their ecosystems and our own.
