When To Lock When Contacting Leadership is Not Required:

Lock even first attempts when misalignment is prevalent (especially when it is apparent the student mixes applied and action or when they mix two different types of applied projects).

Lock even first attempts when the RQ does not align with the research type.

Lock most of the time when the instrument is not present or it is misaligned with the RQ or methods.

Lock and Contact Leadership When:

An aspect has previously passed that should not have passed. This may be on attempts 2 or more. It may be on a subsequent task (task 3, 4, or 5).

Don't assume that it was previously passed. Student go rogue and change their methodology and data collection after it was approved in Tasks 1 & 2.

Dispositions/Fast-Finisher Concerns:

We must hold the student accountable to the timeline approved in Task 2 and Task 3. Please see the addition to the ORM Task 4 CRD: "As you begin your evaluation of Chapter 4, please CHECK THE DATES of approval in Task 2 and the timeline in Tasks 1 and Task 3. If there are discrepancies between the approval and the timeline (i.e., there has not been enough time passed to complete the project), follow the fast-finisher guidelines.

There are inconsistencies between the task instructions and the rubric.

Task Instructions, Rubric Language, and Evaluation Notes

Please understand that the "Evaluation Notes" are the ONLY part of the CRD that we can change.

These performance assessments were written for action research studies. Someone (before us) made the decision to keep the same rubrics for applied projects.

There are areas of misalignment between the task directions and rubric. The evaluation notes serve as a guide to help us interpret the rubric appropriately and must be followed to ensure calibration.

This is why the Evaluation Notes are VERY specific about how to score each aspect. They account for inconsistencies in the task instructions and rubric that we cannot change.

However, we still have to follow stoplight feedback requirements when writing feedback.

A change to the task instructions or rubric require full assessment redevelopment or a live change which involves assessment developers.

This has created inconsistencies between the task instructions and the rubric.

Example of Discrepencies in OPM Task 4

Aspect B1: Participants

Task Instructions include the Note: "If you are proposing an action research study with an instructional unit, plan for a minimum of five active participants." The rubric states, "The submission describes participants or stakeholders as applicable to the type of capstone research, including the number and at least 2 relevant characteristics." The Evaluation Notes: Students are asked to plan for five participants in the task instructions, but they are not required to have five participants. Do not fail for less than 5 participants. Notice that the evaluation notes clarify the inconsistencies.

Always follow the Evaluation Notes.
