Dialogue Purpose

Dialogue helps your characters by showing what they feel or want and reveals parts of their personalities. It helps your story by revealing information about your plot or setting and increases the conflict.

11) Use speaker’s tags to identify a speaker. 2) Put quotation marks (“ ”) around a speaker’s exact words. 3) When the speaker tag comes before the quote, place a comma before a quotation. 4) When the speaker tag comes after the quote and the quote should end in a period, replace the quote's period with a comma. 5) Place periods and commas inside quotation marks. 6) Capitalize the first word of a quotation and first word of each sentence. 7) Begin a new indented paragraph each time the speaker changes.
