CapeTown:
-Legislative capital of South Africa-Second-largest city, after Johannesburg-3 740 026 citizens
The past of CapeTwon
Creation of Cape Town and her start as a colony
- Discovered in 1488 by Bartolomeu Dias
- Became a colony in 1691, Composed of 1400 people including 400 slaves
- Passed under Dutch control in 1699.
- The new governor William van der Stel begins to monopolize commercial contracts, which causes a beginning of revolt in the population of free citizens and the first national reprisals
- The two first groups were given advantages in terms of space and public places, the whites being the most privileged.
Cape Town under British control 1795-1961
- Passed under British control following the capitaluation of the Dutch against the French in the Netherlands.
- In 1901, a municipal decree gives for the first time to black population of cape town an exclusive and mandatory district as a residence: the district of Nbadenie.
- In 1948, the victory of the national party in the general elections south african leads to the establishment of apartheid in south africa.
- This policy of segregation implies a distinction of the southern African, separating the white and metis on one side and the black on the other
The independence of South Africa and Cape Town
- In 1961, South Africa officially becomes a republic and leaves the British Commonwealth, so Cape Town lost its colonial status
- From 1976 the laws of apartheid are no longer strictly applied, public places begin to open up to all.
