During the era of Tudor dynasty, the feudal system and the authority of the roman church were challenged by a strong centralized government. This marked a time of exploration of both the new and the classical world. This period is known as Reinaissance or Elizabethian Age. In this period developed the arts, literature and critical thinking, spread by the invention of the prinring press and exploration. In the north there was also an interest for scriptures and led to questioning of church doctrines.
After the War of the Roses, ended in 1485, Henry VII became the first Tudor king of England throught the marriage to Elizabeth of York. He created the Tudor Rose (new family emblem), introduced high taxes and reduce the power of the barons. He also established a system of governament known as "Tudor despotism".
The puritans, an extreme group of protestants, came into contact with the ideas of John Calvin, leader of the reformation. After the death of Mary, protestant returned to England from the protestant city where they were fled, and formed a calvinist group known as the "Puritans", who wanted to "purify" the church of England. One of them, John Knox, returned to Scotland in 1559 and founded the presbiterian church of Scotland in 1560.
Richard III, the last king of the house of York, was defeated and killed at the Battle of Bosworth Field in 1485, by Henry the Tudor, of the house of Lancaster. So Henry VII become king.
When Henry VII died, he was succeeded by his nine-years-old son Edward VI. He continued protestant reforms until his early death in 1553. His cousin Lady Jane Grey, was crowned queen but only for nine days.

Althought the proposals, she decide to not getting married, so she's called the "Virgin queen". Elizabeth liked to show her power, but she also had political problems with her cousin Mary, who was forced to abdicate for her son. She was considered the perfect queen by the catholics, so elizabeth decided to imprison and executed her.
Mary, the daughter of Henry and Catherine of Aragon, was crowned and became the first woman to be monarch of England. Devout catholic, she was determinated to reintroduced catholicism, so she married Philip II of Spain to ensure that England was loyal to the church of Rome. Her reign was marked by terrible persecutions of protestants. This stained her reputation and gave her the name of "Bloody Mary".
