Summer 2024

Write

Begin your story with this line. Tell us about yourself 5 years ago, about something that you didn’t know until now. It could be a skill that you learned over the years, a fact about you and others, or an action you observed from someone that now you understand the meaning of. Having a chance to look back, how do you feel about certain things now that you know more about yourself, others, and the world? Would your outlook on life be the same? Would you do something different?

Prompt 1

Five Years Ago I Didn’t Know…

Write

By “reliving”, we don’t mean it as mentally re-entering a past event. Rather, it means actually visiting and doing certain things you once did as a child that give you a sense of serenity and belonging. It could be something as simple as a walk in the park, a run in the sun, or a visit to grandma’s little garden. Of course, we all have unique stories to tell that are often not so neat, calm and dreamy. The important thing is to let this prompt be an exercise of your memories. Stroll down your memories lane and focus both on your sensible experience and the people you were creating the memories with.

Prompt 2

Summer 2024

How Are You Reliving An Experience In The Past?

Write

Life is a winding road, a daring adventure, but what value does it hold at all without the simple things that give us comfort and familiarity? That simple thing could be a scent that we experience millions of times, which is what we focus on in this prompt. The smell of freshly cut grass. Smell of the musty garage. Smell of beef fat from a grill. Smell of memories. Whatever it is. Tell us about the scents that remind you of home.

Prompt 3

Summer 2024

What Scent Reminds You Of Home?

Write

Nostalgia, defined as a “sentimental longing for the past”, happens when you look at the moments that remind you how some of the best moments are created even in the toughest time, for the past is often a mix of joy and pain, of comfort and struggle. By seeing the past for what it really is, with both the good and the bad, we come to appreciate the people who helped us through tough times, and most importantly, we can appreciate and learn from our own strength in overcoming them. With that being that, what is one fond memory of yours that defines nostalgia? What did it teach you about yourself and those around you?

Prompt 4

Summer 2024

What Is One Fond Memory Of Yours That Defines Nostalgia?

Write

Despite the heat, summer can’t always hide away the fun: backyard camping, water balloon fights, kickballs, mowing the lawns, the things that make you sweat the sweats of joy. Whatever you do, summer can be an opportunity to make memories with those around you, to make life seem, at the very least, not as bad as it was yesterday. What do you plan to do this summer to make the most out of it?

Prompt 5

Summer 2024

What’s Your Plan For The Summer?

Write

Life will get in the way. Growing up, moving away, changing jobs, things that turn it all into a fond childhood memory of the past. Looking back, it makes you feel lonely. It makes you wonder whether summer will ever be the same. Taking a trip down memory lane, what is one thing you miss about a particular summer in time? Think about the things you did, the people that gathered around, the laughter, the struggle, the triumph that took place somewhere in this hot season.

Writers aren't manufactured. They are forged by aspiration, shaped in anguish, defined by ingenuity. Whatever the path a wordsmith may embark on, it is wonder and appreciation from their community that enable them to rise and shine through stories, the stories able to stab through even the most stubborn fabric that is society.

A handful collection of writing advice and personal stories that put into words what it means to be a human and to write — especially in this day and age where mass production over authenticity is the norm.
