Index:
It was created in 1919 by cartoonist Pat Sullivan and animator Otto Messmer during the silent film era. Felix the cat was one of the most popular characters at the time, as he was the one who caught the public's attention the most. Since then, the cartoon has become big in popular culture.
You creators
Felix the Cat had big white eyes, a giant smile, a big head and a small, black body. It was very simple, but they didn't think it would be better to stay like this forever.
Creation
Felix the Cat was not just a cartoon, it was also a cartoon band made by its animator Otto Messer, its creator Patt Sulivan and another person who was Joe Oriolo in 1923. They also created toys, plushies, postcards and cartoon bands and Jazz music such as that of singer Paul Whiteman, who also wrote the song "Felix Kept on Walking" in 1923.
Character development
At the end of the 1920s, when the time of sound episodes like those of Disney's "Mickey Mouse" arrived. Sullivan and Messmer were unwilling to change their episodes in order to be more popular. But as they didn't, Félix began to decline and become out of fashion, as no one wanted to watch the episode without sound. Sullivan could no longer take it and in 1929 he began producing Félix with sound with the participation of the "Cospley Pictures" broadcast. In 1932 the operation ended because it was a failure.
Decaying
Felix the Cat began to be shown on American television in 1953. Felix was redesigned by Joe Oriolo with longer legs, a rounder and larger head, a much smaller body and no mustaches or teeth. Oriolo also added more characters and added a "Magic Bag of Tricks" that can take any form at his request. He began to stop short episodes and acted in two television shows and two feature films. As Oriolo was a co-creator, he could pass Felix into the hands of his son Don Oriolo before he died.
