TAPAS STRATEGY
TAPAS is an instructional strategy designed to create engaging and interactive professional development workshops. It focuses on fostering deep active learning through a sequence of activities that guide participants through a thoughtful process:
- Think: Encourage participants to reflect on prior knowledge, brainstorm ideas, and critically analyze concepts related to the workshop topic.
- Ask: Promote curiosity by creating an overarching question that will need to be critically responded with the instructional materials offered during the PD/Workshop. It should create opportunities for participants to pose questions, explore perspectives, and engage in meaningful dialogue.
- Play: Incorporate hands-on activities to help participants experiment with new concepts strategies or tools, that will foster a creative approach to respond to the workshop “Ask.”
- Apply: Guide participants in applying learned concepts to real-world situations or practical scenarios relevant to their professional context.
- Summarize: Conclude by summarizing key takeaways, reflecting on learning experiences, and discussing actionable next steps for implementation.
This approach ensures an interactive, dynamic, and reflective learning experience that empowers participants to retain and apply their new knowledge.
